Thank you for your sharing.

It is great to see more using this free and secure Linux OS. Please come back more often to share your tips of using Linux. If you do not have a website of your own to share things about Linux, I have another blog at http://ubuntulinuxmint.com sharing software programs that are close counterparts to those in Microsoft Windows. Would you like to be an author or editor so that you can help manage that blog?

I'm using 12 now, just switched up recently. I think your right on 11 being a little easier to start off with, but I'm starting to warm up to 12. Things are different for sure, but it may just be a matter of getting used to the new layout.

Thanks for your post. However, I was really looking for input on Ubuntu 10 vs 11, yet maybe I'll give ~Mint a go while I'm at it! xD Cheers!

As long as the Linux machine can read and run CD or DVD, the steps should be the same as guided. Just pop in the CD or DVD and it should detect your existing OS and allows you to choose to wipe everything out or install Linux Mint side by side with your existing OS.

If you just want to test run Linux Mint, you can install VirtualBox in your existing Linux OS, and then install Linux Mint inside the VirtualBox to test run it.

INSTALLING UBUNTU LINUX MINT ON A NOTEBOOK ALREADY HAVING (another distrib of) LINUX AS ITS OS

I know how to use a live CD or DVD to install on a windows PC. But how do you go about installing on a Linux machine?

As for gdebi, you can set up nautilus in such way that double clicking on .deb file will open it in gdebi, just like in Ubuntu. After having gdebi installed, right-click on some .deb file, then click Properties -> Open With tab -> and from application list select gdebi, then Ok.
